Geography Mid Year Exam Paper 2008 MCQ PART

*PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT MODEL ANSWER IT MAYBE WRONG*
1. A
2. D
3. B
4. B
5. D
6. B
7. A
8. C
9. D
10. A
11. ***
12. B
13. ***
14. A
15. B

Explanations:
1.For question one, they asked about france, you can find france's location at the back of your geog textbook. if you don't have one,
this picturel show where France is. As we have learned about the continents, we know which is America, Europe, Asia, or Australia. France, is on Europe.

Continents:

2.Physical environment depends, there is natural and human made, for this one, most if ut us natural, so better choose the "extraordinary" one.

3. Longitude, means Line or Meridian. Meridian must cross the Equator, the Longitude, stated there that it is 180 degree of longitude. 180 means vertical, | <-- vertical.
4. For this one, it is quite tough, i also don't know what to explain... JKJK xD. ok... Cape town is at the Southern part of america, Just to let you see...

Since it is approximately below equator, it is on southern hemisphere. it's coordinate is 33degreeS while Chiang Mai is at 18 degree north(northern hemisphere).
for MCQ A: "Cape town is nearer to the equator than chinag mai" is false. since equator is 0 degree N/S, the nearer the number to zero, the nearer it is to the equator.
for MCQ B: Cape Town is nearer the tropic of capricorn than Chiang Mai" is True, since tropic of capricorn is at 23.5 degree south, cape town is at 33 degree south, so the answer is B.
The MCQ C and D is an obvious failure~~ so there is many things else to explain, skip this CD =D

5. A valley is like V shaped land. its V because it is between 2 mountain. A river can be the one forming a valley. /\/\ <-- my illustration about valley =D

6.im not really sure how to explain this one, you should memorize names of igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks if you want to solve this.

Some common rocks names... found at "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_rock_types#Sedimentary"
Igneous:
-Basalt
-Granite
-Obsidian
-Quartz

Sedimentary:
-Coal
-Chalk
-Claystone
-Conglomerate
-Flint
-Limestone
-Mudstone
-Sandstone
-Shale
-Siltstone

Metamorphic:
-Gneiss
-Schist
-Marble
-Slate

*to find their descriptions, pls find themself, if i write it here, this post will be uberlong

7. At textbook page 82, there is stated that " The plates of the earth moves, called crustal movement. As the plates move, they may slide past, pull apart, or push towards each other. As this happens, mountains and volcanoes would be formed. the mountains which are produced in this way are called "Fold mountains" and usually is Mountain range. The examples are The Andes Mountain range at the south America, Himalayas in Nepal(andy home) and there is more mountain ranges at page 83. ( see urself)

8-9. The picture is about a Floodplain. (description at page 120 textbook) on it, there is meanders, (description at page 119). *Sorry, i get lazy over time.... lesser explanations.. sorry im tired =(

10.if the scale says 1: 200 000 , it will be always " 1 cm equals to 200 000 cm" if you convert it, 1 cm represent 200 km. 1 km = 100000 cm 1 km= 1000 m 1km= 1000000 mm
1 m = 100 cm 1 m = 1000 mm
To convert it to higher units, just divide it instead of adding zeroes. (example, 1m=100 cm means 1 x 100 if want change cm to m is " 1 cm = 0.01 m " means 1 cm : 100 instead of time it by 100)

11. Im not sure of this, at 3 oct i will confirm this.

12. As Mr tan told us, the U shaped Thermometer, shows the minimal and maximum temperature of a day. in this casem it is 13 degree C and 19 degree C. it is quite... logical... for me, because we all know if something heated, it will expand, and if it is freeze or get to a lower temperature, it will contract ( become smaller). So the Liquid in the U shaped Thermo, rise to highest, pushing the metal index to where the liquid highest reach( this is the right side, maximum side) . then if it is cold, from maximum, the liquid in the thermo will drop, thus, the left side of the thermo rise ( the minimum ) and push the metal index to show the minimum temperature of the day. u can ask me anytime if you don't understand. call me if you need.
IMPORTANT: NO PRANK CALLS (ask my number from my friends)

13. Im not sure about this one also, confirmed in Saturday 3 Oct ( ask mr tan =D)

14. The Climographs, Show us the maximum and minimal temperature of the months, so we take the max and mins for each climos. it asked WHICH CLIMO HAS THE SMALLEST ANNUAL TEMP RANGE ? for me, it's A, Equator has the least temperature range, because it has a tropical climate, this area receive high sunlight and ranfall throughout the year. so the temperature range is not so high.

15. Maple, for your information, im not sure about this also, but since i know maples are at temperate climates.... i will choose this. and the familiar names such as Meranti, Jelutong ( Tree that we used it's wood for pencil holder, poor tree ), and Angsana, is smells like.... Malayish to me, its familiar, nt like maple, sounds majestic and unfamiliar. so its important to have a logical thinking too =).

At this part, i will only cover the MCQ, if need me to cover whole paper, it will take me more than 1 hour. I REPEAT ONCE again, if wanna ask me anything about this, or found mistakes, pls just ask or just tell. =)

FYI i done this in 1 hour 30 minute, i hope this will help u guys, =)
